What happens when batik is reimagined with modern cultural symbols? Nanyang Pandas explores this question through original, self-drawn motifs developed in-house. Beyond wildlife, pandas are cultural icons in Singapore — familiar, well loved, and woven into everyday life. Here, they appear at ease in the tropics, part of a contemporary Nanyang landscape.
Behind the light-hearted imagery lies a rigorous making process. The blue batik is produced through a painstaking, multi-stage workflow — from drawing and waxing to dyeing and fixing — shaped by research, repetition, and time.
The Qipao is finished with double piping in blue and silver, a demanding technique now rarely practiced in Singapore, executed by our most senior artisan. Rare Swarovski stone buttons complete the piece with restraint, adding a quiet point of light that sharpens the overall composition.
Currently shown in Midnight Grove, but also available in Forest Grove and Morning Grove. Available by pre-order and custom order.
