Featuring Culture Medallion Recipient & Sculptor Chong Fah Cheong

It started with a chance encounter between Vivienne who met Cultural Medallion 2014 Recipient (Visual Arts) Chong Fah Cheong in an art exhibition in Penang earlier this year. Conversations flowed as both Vivienne and Fah Cheong both shared the experience of studying in Singapore but had sweet childhood memories of Penang.

Vivienne got to know many of the famous sculptures outdoor in Singapore including the “children playing and jumping into the Singapore River” and the huge Kam Cheng (Peranakan pot) opposite Design Orchard was done by this accomplished artist.

At age 78, he is showing no signs of slowing down. Coincidentally, Fah Cheong is the same age as Vivienne’s father. He is also the epitome of Active Ageing, learning baking while regularly travelling between cities to do his sculptures.
